Another item checked off my bucketlist!
I FINALLY got my iMac. Yay! Its a bit surreal really, I’ve been wanting one since the end of high school but it was a bit of a pipe dream. I needed a laptop for my studies and everyone’s parents were asking for computers. One of my friends got a macbook pro from her grandma but most were just getting basic computers. I thought since my sister had a macbook my parents would let me get one too. Nope. Not happening.
Fast forward three years, and my laptop isn’t working so well. It overheats and shuts itself down, shuts down if I try to watch a video online and the speakers aren’t so good. I figure not alot can be done because of the overheating problem and well, I did trash it a bit. Installing and uninstalling the Sims 2 and all the expansion and stuff packs a zillion times probably wasn’t the brightest idea.
A year earlier I got a job at the hospital and I was expecting a big payment in the post. It never arrived though. I was hoping to buy an imac with that money but I was left disappointed. It was either that or a dslr and a whole bunch of lenses. I have since got a dslr and the lenses are slowly coming in. I have 3 now, and I’m hoping to get a wide angle lens in the next six months or so.
Since then, I did some research on different ways of financing a mac and it wasn’t pretty! The mac store charged exorbitant prices to buy a mac over a period of time and renting one wasn’t exactly an option either- some places charged £100 a day!!! I talked to my parents and they agreed to buy it for me if I’d pay them back once I was working again. I had to wait a long time, but last week I became the proud owner of an imac
I wanted an imac because I was a big fan of imovie and when I’ve tried video editing in windows in the past everything has crashed. I’ve also found the supplied software quite limited so its been a frustration to work with. Also programs like Sony Vegas have been up to £800 and I wasn’t prepared to spend that sum of money on one thing. I also am an apt photographer so imac is a good computer for me to use. Don’t get me wrong, I love windows. I just needed a change. I got a desktop as opposed to a laptop because the screen is much bigger (21.5in) and you get more bang for your buck- theres alot more space for example. It will be a good place to do all of my blogs and I’m hoping to take a photo everyday for a year with photobooth- this is a project I have wanted to do for a long time, but setting up a camera in the same place with a tripod, with the same distance from my face everyday was going to be problematic. Since I’m on my computer everyday, its unlikely I would forget take my daily shot. It has been alot of fun so far.
Where should I get inspiration/ideas for all of my blogs?
Now that I have more than one blog I have no idea what to write about. It used to be random mumbo jumble about all kinds of things but I decided to make specific blogs about different things because not everyone likes to read about religion or weightloss, posting lots of photos causes problems for some people and not everyone would be interested to hear about me write about myself, my life, my problems all the time and a topic like photography can be fairly neutral at times.
a private blog/diary where no-one knows who I am
my blog (its all about me, my opinions, rants, experiances etc)
a photography blog
christianity/religion blog
blog about enfp
food diary
weight mantenance blog
fashion blog
learning french and embracing the culture
and thats pretty much it for now. I think I can interview people, answer questions people may have and put up tutorials but I’m pretty much stuck for ideas. I tried google but it didn’t really help, it just came up with boring lists of topics which isn’t really what I wanted. I thought of reading other peoples blogs and coming up with my own versions/responses to theirs, which would also drive visitors to my blog, but it doesn’t create much original content.
Your thoughts?
Nothing to see here, move along…
I thought it would be funny to do a before and after of my bedroom. Most people deal with a messy room from time to time, but for me its usually a daily reality. I did tidy my room after these photos but I still need to vaccum and reorder a few things before I take after shots. The main reason I decided to tidy up is that on saturday we’re getting a housecheck to see if we’re a suitable family to rehome a dog and to see what kind of dog would suit our lifestyle. I don’t know if my room will be inspected, but since the dog will be sleeping in there, I think its highly likely. Imagine what a field day s/he’d have in this dump!!!
I’m playing the Sims 3 at the moment. Later I’m going to go out and take photos of the snow then build a giant snowman in our backyard and take even MORE photos and post them on my photography blog. I’ll keep you updated.
In other news, my dad is on holiday from work which means we’re gonna go to London for a few days, and we’ve been looking at dogs. Sweep was taken by someone else so we inquired about a gorgeous retriver called Glen who has an obsession with Teddy Bears but we left it to late and someone else has claimed him! They are having a home inspection sometime this week and if they fail it, we will be welcome to visit him and see if hes the dog for us.
I have also been avoiding amazon.com after reading the pupose driven life and realising I want to appreciate what I have. Whats the point in ordering more books when I already have about 15 books I haven’t read and a million DVDs I should make the most of first by writing reviews and recording quotes I like.
Mum brought me a lovely Expedit desk and bookshelf combo from IKEA and I love it, but unfortunately there isn’t enough space for all of my stuff in it. The bookshelf is half the size I wanted because the size I wanted didn’t actually exist and the size up wouldn’t fit in my bedroom so the bookshelf hasn’t actually helped my bedroom situation much which means alot of my stuff is crammed between the wall and my bed. Ahh the joys of having a small bedroom in England
Sorry I haven’t posted for a while, I think I’ve been feeling a bit low. I’ll try and write more from now on!
We’re getting a Dog!
Sorry for my absense. I haven’t been in a great mood lately and I’ve been sick for the last few days. I want to update all of my blogs everyday or so but that hasn’t been possible lately.
When I started these blogs I was on a temporary high because I had been off my medications for a week so it was unable to keep my moods balenced. It was great for me because I was able to get lots done and I felt really good which makes me wonder, why does society feel the need to medicate us at all? Maybe one day a medicine will come out that will allow us to feel good all the time. I hate being on Epilium because it makes me feel flat and uninspired. Oh well.
We were meant to be getting a dog but the one I had picked out got rehomed before I could stake my claim. My mum got an email saying that another family had already shown interest in Sweep, the dog I wanted and within a few days his profile had been updated to say he was taken. I’m not very happy about it because I told my mum to contact the pet place a week before she did which meant we lost that particular dog. It doesn’t look like we will be able to get a K9 until after Christmas because we are going on holiday for a week and wouldn’t be able to look after it. Since it would be new to our family, mum didn’t want to pay someone else to watch him.
”Sweep is a very distinguished 10 year old springer spaniel cross collie chap. Sadly, he has found himself with us as his owner had to go into a nursing home. Sweep is a fantastic dog who loves people and is great with children.
He is good with our other dogs and is good with cats. Sweep is a good traveller, walks nicely on his lead and is very obedient.”
Basically Sweep would have been good with our family because my parents want an older dog, and I have always wanted a Border Collie because our neighbour had one and it was really good natured. We don’t want to get something with too much energy or that will bark all day because my mum does shift work and I may be joining her in the future.
Our last dog, Maggie got put down because she was a nervous dog who hated thunder and lightening, was aggressive towards men and police officers and would nip anyone who touched her in her sensitive spots. Overall she was a wonderful dog but she was starting to show her age and my sisters were moving to the other side of the country, and I was moving overseas with my parents. My sisters weren’t willing to look after her and I was enraged when I found out she had been put down. She could have easily have lived for another five years if someone had wanted to look after her, but my parents decided putting her down was the best option.
I don’t know if I will ever fully forgive my parents for what they did, but hey, I couldn’t afford for her to be flown overseas or her general needs so it was the only option. She had a rough start to life and we were unable to change some of her habits which is a shame because she was a really lovely dog. Hopefully we’ll be reunited in heaven.
Here is another dog I liked.
v
I think the way he sleeps is seriously adorable. I can’t remember his other attributes because my mum
said we couldn’t get him- he lives in Wales which is too far to go to get a dog.
He is a greyhound.
We have been visiting dogsblog.com because they never put a healthy dog down and they link people
to thousands of dogs looking for homes and tell you if they are compatible with cats or other dogs,
what training they will need etc.
I am hoping we can avoid the site for a few months because I don’t want to come across anymore disappointments like Sweep.
Domain Name
My middle name is Beth. Beth!!!
I wanted to name my own domain StephanieBeth.com but someone already owns it… and shes a photographer too. Grr! So I looked up StephanieElizabeth.com and its available. What do you guys think?
If I ever get recognised for my work, I need something easily known by the public so they can find me without referring to any of my other online profiles. Something with my name. Something that says ”Me”. Same thing goes if I publish a book or something down the line.
Should I make this purchase now before someone else snatches it? Or wait like seventy years until my predessor passes on? Haha, I don’t even think thats an option. I just think StephanieElizabeth would be more recognisable then something like ”superawesomephotographybystephanie.com” or something.
Opinions?
Hello again!
I’ve just updated my photography blog!
http://stephaniebethphotography.wordpress.com/
Please check it out and comment, its my first post there so I would really appreciate some feedback. In the future I will be posting tutorials, photos from my daily 365 photo project (don’t worry I haven’t started it yet!), my favourite images why, pictures from my travels and interviews with some of flickrs best. I hope you enjoy my work so far, and remember its still under construction so try not to start nit picking yet!
Hopefully I’ll be able to twist my dads arm or do some dishes and he’ll get me premium so I can edit this and that blog with css and make it a bit more attractive and we’ve already talked about purchasing a domain together so I can host my blogs on my own websites and he can do whatever he does on the internet together.
